Films on a Friday: Five Vampire Films...

...you may or may not have watched (but probably should) from around the world.

Vampires. They are probably the most attractive supernatural creatures used in literature and cinema. Or at least the most popular ones, from classics like Dracula and Nosferatu to new handsome devils. While big budgeted Hollywood franchises attract younger audiences to cinemas I, myself, have a different approach on this topic. I cannot comment on books or films that I haven't read or watched , but I prefer smaller stories or maybe, let's say personal struggles of immortal creatures. There is some sort of romance about their alienation, living on other people or not dying which I find sad, mostly. And I love sad stories.

Last week

Hello there,
I decided to put together these weekly posts for several reasons. First, I love making lists as much as the next person. Second, lately I need to realize that my life is not actually going downhill all the time and things that make me happy (even for a moment) are happening. And finally, maybe this way I can post something on the blog. Because I want to.

Last week I was in Aegean coast again. That was a pretty calm holiday but I enjoyed lots of things.
  • Blossoms on the trees and the game which we were trying to guess what tree that is.
  • Long walks on beach and calm sea.
  • That one cigarette on the balcony in the middle of the night when it was raining.
  • The cheeks of the fish that's been caught by a family friend. I never thought of eating a fish's head. Boy, was I wrong.
  • Helping another family friend to make soaps.
  • Spa, warm water, smell of plain soaps, turkish bath and the feeling of being SO clean that you feel like you're shining.
  • The silence and the birds.
  • A little red house with a huge garden.
  • Taste of the perfect olive oil.
  • My grandmother acting like drunk when she was not and the fact that she was aware of it.
  • The clementine tree and the huge terrace of our new summer house. Also the mountain view.

  • Finally, rain!
  • Driving on an empty road.
  • Cinematography of the Grandmaster (I also generally liked the film but I think Wong Kar Wai is better at telling personal stories than big historical events. So the parts about history though very nice they were, cut the story telling that I'm so fond of like a knife.)
  • Going to an Italian cooking class and learning new sauces. And that four cheese sauce.
  • Having a huge Sunday breakfast.
  • Meeting old friends for a coffee and cake. Talking non-stop.
  • The feeling and the smell of fresh sheets after a fast weekend.

A New Year

Well, it's officially 2014 for the last 2 days. Many people made lists about how amazing 2013 was or what did they achieve, what photos did they take, where did they go. I don't think I want to do it this year. Anyway it's 2014 and it's already late. I believe the main reason for this to make yourself see that every year has its ups and downs. Every year you have some experiences although they are not the ones you were planning all along. And although you feel like you're getting older, it's just numbers on a paper and life has nothing to do with that.

Also many people has set their goals for 2014 and made some resolutions. I wish I was one of the more determined people out there but I am not. Over the years I tried to make resolutions, only to leave them to rot in week two. I know it is important to set some goals to get things done but obviously I need more motivation for this.

But I'm not saying that I have no expectations from 2014 or last year was completely bad. I think it usually felt flat and sad but it also had good moments, new people, new places. And what I decided to do was to set simple goals for this year. I'm not saying I'm going to write everyday because I know I can't. Or I can't go jogging every week. But I can say that I will try to love myself more (because last days of 2013 made me realize that I was neglecting the one person I'll have to live with for the rest of my life) and I'll try to write more things, and learn a new recipe at least in 3-4 weeks. See, I made some resolutions after all.

Oh 2014, be gentle to me!

Food from last week

...or so. I love spending time in the kitchen and those pretty and/or delicious things were made last week. Some savory snacks, pumpkin pie, omelette with onions and brussel sprout chips with avocado salad sandwich are this weeks 'highlights'.

Dublin Streets

Dublin.6
Long time no se, eh? I can explain. For the last month I was travelling, visited London and Dublin. So, although I still have some photos from the time I was still at home I'm going to post Dublin (and very little London) photos probably. I'm starting with Dublin but London was our first destination. I think London is and always will be the most beautiful and lovely city ever but I guess Dublin is still growing on me. So without further ado, Dublin streets.

I must say, during this trip I rarely took photos because I was mostly enjoying myself. I have many things to say as well about Dublin and London but I guess I need to stop myself on this one. I talk about little else lately.

Doors with history behind them

d1
Historical places in Istanbul are way too familiar for me to find new things when I look. Yet last time I was in Dolmabahçe Palace, I decided to take pictures of something a bit overlooked. Doors around palace. Oh, and a coffee in the garden of course.

Perfect Post-Summer Desserts

Wait. They're just plums. Only they are not. So again a recent found recipe was this. Simple as it gets, delicious, helthy and I don't know what else to say. They're just amazing, ok! Now all you need to do for this recipe is;
